A Vision of Hope: A Charity Event at The Home of Joy For The Sick Children

“It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”

Mother Theresa

Our team at Vision International Philippines celebrated the real season of love at the Missionaries of Charity: Home of Joy For The Sick Children located in Tondo, Manila last November 16, 2018. The orphanage, dedicated to the cause of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, was home to children of all ages who physically suffered different kinds of ailments yet wore an unmistakable smile in their faces.

On a sunny yet crisp day, Team VIP had the privilege to witness what a day in the life of the children, sisters and “house parents”  of Home of Joy was like. Children joyously playing at an open playground beneath towering trees that provide enough shade as sisters prayed and house parents, volunteers from around the area, water the plants surrounding the vicinity, this was a typical scene at the Home of Joy. The striking simplicity of the place complemented its energetic environment as children of all ages and all brimming with life enjoyed the sunshine and cool breeze.

Once the program started, the children were quickly gathered by the sisters and house parents to a small plaza. We started to hand out coloring materials and books and witnessed how eager the children were to participate. As it turns out, Home of Joy is not only home to happy children but highly creative and smart ones too. We gave out a variety of toys, sweets and accessories to the children who were quick to thank us and explore the exciting giveaways. After the creative session, we all ate lunch as members of our team performed a christmas medley where some of the older kids sang along. We then enjoyed the rest of the bright and blissful day playing under the sun. When the time came to say goodbye, the children and the VIP team parted with hearts full of precious memories and gratitude.

We thank our partners for their support in this venture by providing charitable donations, food, medicine and other necessities. We also would like to thank our valued participants for making this possible. We at VIP could not have done any of this without the support of every single one of you who believed in our vision for a better nation. In the words of Mother Teresa, “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.” We hope to continue to partner with the Filipino people in building a brighter tomorrow one small act of kindness at a time.

Our biggest thanks to Aspen, Rotary Club of Manila 101 RI District 3810, Wolves Football Philippines, Kyani Inc., Ms. Myrna Yao, Mr. Thomas Jordan and Mr. Miguel Dela Peña.
